There are rigourous mechanisms already in place, such as a parent PIN, age visibility, aggressive chat filtering, human moderators, a reporting system, strict developer content guidelines and the ability to play in private VIP servers. The parent's guide should also be read thoroughly. I have said many times before that letting your child play freely on the internet without close supervision is akin to dropping them off in the middle of the city on a Saturday night and saying 'Go for it!' Inappropriate content on YouTube, adult themes on Instagram, bullying on Facebook, sexting on Snapchat, phishing on email and unwanted advances from predators in a virtual world are the norm, not the exception. ![]() So I welcome these revelations as they bring this topic back into the spotlight. Recent headlines from around the world have been screaming about the danger our children face when playing online games like ROBLOX or Minecraft servers. While the media loves a controversial story, there is absolutely no denying that predators frequent online gaming sites including Club Penguin and even Xbox Live. If your child plays online games in virtual worlds with other random players, there is a high probability they will be in the company of child predators. ![]()
